A Landscape Drawing?!

You're used to seeing my character art, but today you get to see some observational drawing!

I went out to a park and found myself a spot which I thought would be interesting to sketch. I found that spot pretty close to the park entrance! There was a circle of grass with a few trees planted, one small tree was stood surrounded by the leaves of other trees from around where I was sat. Without further ado I got sketching and spent about an hour creating this composition.

The style of this sketch is still rather cartoony as you can see, blocking the shapes which the trees were making. A way this could have been better is if I had tried a different way of making marks to suggest the leaves of the tree rather than the general shape of it. Another part was the walls which almost every brick detail had laid out. This is not necessary and only a few of these lines would be needed to indicate that the wall is made of bricks.

Now that I have this sketch, I can use it as a basis for a new illustration, maybe have some of my characters out in the park. I also took some pictures of the park while I was there which could be used to inspire other drawings. It's important for an artist to get out and draw as well as to be drawing from the comfort of your own room, so be sure to get out and find something to get drawing. Live observation is the best way for an artist to learn.

Droey and Co. Trick or Treating

When you're young, Trick or Treat is most important part of Halloween and so Droey's off out with his friends to make sure they enjoy it!

Anne Natalie suggested that for the first time they go out Trick or Treating as just a group of kids, in the years before they had all been going with their parents. Everyone but Droey and Ida were absoloutley thrilled with this idea, the other two were a little nervous. Anne assured them that they'd all have each other's backs.

Droey put on his favourite pumpkin costume with the fluorescent face and was to wait for John, who would be passing on his way to Anne Natalie's. Droey and John didn't take that long to prepare their costumes. This year John decided to be a pirate with a hook on his right hand.

When the two boys got to Anne's, the rest of their group was already there. Anne Natalie was dressed as a witch, she'd bought a new black top with a long sleeved layer beneath and a cat face as florescent as Droey's pumpkin face! Zorica wanted to go as a zombie and had been practicing her zombie act for a couple of days now, if only she could stop herself from breaking into laughter every time she tried! Ida was dressed as a tree, she didn't really know what she wanted to go as so came up with her costume last minute; so last minute that she didn't have time to cut holes for her arms!

It's been a while since I had drawn Droey and Co. dressing up at all so it was nice to make Halloween an occasion to do this again. Do your OCs have any costumes they like dressing up in? I'd be interested to see! In the meantime, here's the video for this drawing.

Transylvanian Families

Droey was minding his own business one day when he seems to have gotten himself involved with a family of vampires?

Droey is a rather pale person. It's no surprise one day when some vampires were out on a family outing, they spotted Droey and mistook him for another vampire! Droey was greeted warmly and they insisted that Droey came along with them for a drink. Politely, Droey accepted the invitation and went with the vampires. They were likely a middle class family since they had a rather fancy looking house called 'Count Castle'.

As they got talking, Droey learned that Mr. Drake had recently moved into the area with his family to take on a job as a dentist. His son, Edward was going to university and hoping to become a doctor. / is around Droey's age and studying food health while making a profit on the side as a hypnotist. There was only one minor issue, Droey doesn't drink alcohol, so felt awkward as he watched Mr. Drake pouring him a glass of wine!

You can see this illustration being created on YouTube, it was uploaded back in October!

What Do You Think, Monty?

Monty Moth is competing in a soapbox race but his parents can't help him to make his car. Monty couldn't be bothered to make on on his own so hesitantly he decided to seek the help of his uncle, Agrius Moth!

Agrius was enthusiastic to show Monty the work he had done, with the help of Finley and Bri. About a week after his last visit, Monty came over to see the car.

'Tadaa!' cried Agrius. 'What do you think, nephew?' Monty stared in confusion at his soapbox car, which looked subtlety much like Agrius himself! 'This bad boy will have all of the other racers shaking with fear and anyone who dares to get in your way will have to face the wrath of the Mothmobile!'

'Mothmobile?' Monty repeated in disbelief, neither emotional or impressed over the name.

'Well it was that or The Convolvulus Kart; I think Mothmboile has a better ring to it.'

'It does, boss!' Finley chirped. He was modelling the car whilst wearing a crash helmet. He may have also been the test dummy.

'Quite right, Finley! So, what do you think?'

'Um...' Monty doesn't usually have an opinion on something, though his opinion on this car was how cheesy it was. But Monty didn't like to upset his uncle, not out of fear but out of respect for his bigheartedness towards him. 'Yeah, pretty cool.' Was the words Monty mustered for a response.

'Excellent, now let's turn off the lights so we can show you the luminous effects!'

'Luminous effects?' Monty thought to himself. Of course Agrius would have added something luminous to the design!
