The Disney Duck Kids

This has been on my to do list for a while, it's just been something I felt was quite difficult to accomplish. I decided it was time to tackle this challenge and I couldn't be happier that I did. Behold Hewy, Dewey and Louie in Droey's Draws style!

Despite three of them being triplets, I wanted to make the head designs more diverse. I picked three shapes to suit the ducks, Hewy got a square, Dewey a circle while Louis and Webby have arches at different angles. Webby was originally going to get a squared head but it wasn't working. Her design is now the closest to the official design out of the four ducks as a result.

The bodies start off as a typical Droey's Draws style body, but are given circular hips to which the tail is added at the back and then some duck feet drawn in a style resembling the stilts used in the children's book 'Elmer on Stilts'. A strange reference for DuckTales content but it works nicely. The only part of the design that is a direct match to the official designs are the beaks, which otherwise I would have had a great struggle with.

There is a great absence of black in this piece, simply because I fancied using my coloured ballpoints to outline the ducks. The eye colours were going to be black but I felt like giving them their token colours instead simply because it would look more interesting than black eyes. There is also a great absence of necks, Dewey was the only design intended not to have a neck but it ended up being just Hewy who had a neck!

Have you drawn the Disney Ducks lately? I'd be interested to see how you've interpreted them, and if you stuck with either TV incarnation or give them an original twist!

Mona Mokauke and Paddy

It's about time Mona Mohauke got a full design, and here's her Technobian, Paddy! That's right, Tenvad's not the only Technobian besides Jirou!

Mona's made a couple of appearances before, debuting at Michow Mooble's concert. However on both occasions she was a bit of a struggle regarding proportions. I set out to fix these problems this time around and I think I may have done. The only major change is that her jacket is now shorter, with only two buttons and the pocket has been moved over to her right. For the sake of having a quirkier design I have resorted to giving Mona Wellington boots, not something I have often drawn. Wether or not this associates her with farmyard life remains to be seen.

The big news in this piece comes in the form of Paddy, the third Technobian character! Paddy is based on an IPad, with earphone inspired shoes and charger inspired hands. Paddy's design was a simple task and the only parts I experimented a bit with were the hands and the face. The Technobians aren't that much of a challenge to design but are a bit of a challenge when it comes to involving them in situations to draw, but I'm working on that problem. You'll be seeing Paddy and Tenvad again very soon.

So that's these two characters properly introduced. Not sure if they're good friends, roommates or an intimate item with each other. Perhaps their dynamic will develop into something as they make more appearances, only time will tell.

Kasey's Favourite Anime?

Kasey Golden once opened a box of Japanese treats filled with anime sponsoring treats. But the anime that took her by surprise was the appearance of Thomas the Tank Engine! I know what I have to do...

Many cartoons have had actual anime adaptations or have been adapted into the anime style by fans. Thomas seemed to receive little of this treatment, at least from what I could find so I had to rely on my own knowledge and sits to try and bring Thomas into the anime scene. I ended up going back to 1991's 'Thomas, Percy and the Dragon', although an episode with a Chinese theme, it was the closest to anime I could think of excluding the Magic Railroad film.

The sketch for the Chinese dragon was genuinely better than the final result, which I don't dislike. I grabbed a reference photo for the sketch and the result just looked gorgeous! Such a complicated design and I think I nailed it, it certainly made me feel confident enough to include the dragon in the final piece. The same can be said for the anime styled Fat Controller, I couldn't resist slipping him into the illustration.

I wanted someone to be asking Kasey what her favourite anime was, and was considering the inclusion of a Droey and Co. member, but settled on putting Kasey and her buddy, DrawingWiffWaffles, together for the first time. There is a particular design for Waffles' avatar that was perfect for featuring in this piece, the very first of her videos that I saw. DrawingWiffWaffles received a Scrawlrbox with the challenge set to manga herself, that design being recreated here in my style, otherwise she either wouldn't fit, would be too small or just look out of place. I have recently mastered braids so it was lovely to continue drawing them as a part of Manga Waffles' hair style.

I used my water colour pencils (sorry Kasey!) since I hadn't done so in a while, I felt it was only fair to use some kind of watercolour since it was a Kasey themed illustration. Due to the details involved I kept the colouring simple with no shading.

This is the second time I've illustrated Kasey Golden, he first time her irises were black instead of hazel, but then that was before the face reveal! Which other YouTubers do you think I should come back to? You can see the nine YouTubers I originally drew in a blog post dating as far back as early 2018, feel free to check it out!

Two Years Later - Teletubbies Humanized!

Over the posts and long ago, Teletubbies came to play looking a little more human than usual. Now I return to this challenge but this time I draw them in something more realistic than the Droey's Draws style. Prepare to see some even more human looking Teletubbies!

I struggled a little bit, wanting to draw each Teletubby down to the hip, but finding poses that reflected them proved to be too challenging so I resorted to mid-shots. I'll go through each Teletubby in the order I created them, which is in the famous order that their roll call follows.

Tiny Winky is without a doubt the favourite of this piece. I love the design, the pattern and the colours, even the addition of the ear stud which the original version lacked. I was going to give him an ascot but ultimately decided against it. I think you can tell what I was going for, Tinky Winky is depicted as a homosexual, something that was highly suggested of him at the time of the show's release.

I knew what I was doing with Dipsy and didn't say from my vision, except from one aspect. I changed his skin tone, I was going to use a tan pen but resorted to the orange-brown colour from my pastel collection. It may be slightly redder than his actual skin tone but the result is so much better than I could've imagined and am proud to have done this, This shade of orange-brown was also in my skin tone collection and I was always wondering when I would actually use it for a skin tone, I am now satisfied to think it has great potential, it might work for a character like Ida Noe (see Droey and Co.). The pattern in the background is sampled from Dipsy's cow skin top hat.

La-La was the challenging one. Standing and facing the 'camera' just didn't suit her and I needed her to look like she didn't have a care in the world. Numerous references later and it became possible for her to assume the pose you see her in now. Her hair was changed greatly to gain bangs and to turn her spiral tuft into a ponytail, not that it is so obvious from this angle. Lastly, La-La's skin tone was actually the tan pen I originally intended for Dipsy! This made her skin slightly darker than I wanted but I was aiming for a more bronzed skin tone that looked like an exotic tan. I used a yellow pencil to lighten up the tone and it did her justice, overall despite her struggle I am happy with how La-La has turned out.

Lastly there's Po. I love her original design and didn't want to change it but I accidentally did. She is supposed to be wearing a onesie which could be zipped from the back, but the front looked a little plain to me so I ended up moving the zip to the front. The other change I intentionally made to take advantage of the more detailed illustration was giving Po a braid that would lead to her loop of hair. This has boosted my confidence with braids which I have finally got the hang of. The pattern in the background is inspired by her scooter.

These are brilliant designs and I'm glad they've turned out like this, it may be a struggle if I had to draw these designs in the Droey and Co. style again! One more thing that springs to mind, the recent revival of Teletubbies has seen us gain an army of Tiddlytubies, which has made me overthink so much about Teletubbies! Do you think I should try to humanise all of the Tiddlytubbies as well to complete the set? Let me know what you think I should do about it, even if it's just for a laugh!

Cowabunga!

The heroes in a half shell have recently returned to television in 'Rise Of The TMNT', but their designs are questionable. I decided to design the turtles fit for Droey's Draws style and see how I could handle the decisions taken to make the turtles more diverse. In theory this as a wonderful idea but in reality it turned out to be a real pain in the neck!

I had in mind what I wanted to achieve out of each turtle, though maybe a bit more time working on these designs would've paid off. I'll go through the four of them one at a time from left to right.

Michelangelo was going to be the short and pudgy looking turtle, going with the youthful idea that seemed to resonate with both 2012 and 2018 Mikey. This would also draw the most inspiration from Leonardo as I drew him in 2017 (which you can find in the May 2017 chapter on this blog). With that in mind Mikey should've been the easiest turtle to work on and have turned out the best. I can't quite work out what it is but something doesn't feel right when I look at him. I'm confident that I could get this design to look good if I drew it again.

Raphael is the best one of the lost, there's no question about it! I wanted bulky looking Raphael with the shell crack, but not for him to be the biggest truffle. Going by height comparison you may notice I've followed the 2012 designs by going Mikey, Raph, Leo and Donnie. The squared design of Raphael suits him well, looks good in practicality and always grabs my attention looking at this piece, for being so decent in comparison to those sat next to him!

Leonardo would've had a full body view between Raphael and Donatello but there was no room. That's my only stigma attached to Leo, he otherwise looks fine. He would've had the standard looking body type for my characters, which would probably look good if I drew the whole thing. He was supposed to be holding his katana a but I placed them in his holder which means his left arm is sticking out for no reason... whoops.

Lastly is Donatello, oh Donatello. It's always been the case that I struggle heavily with any Donatello whatever style I draw him in! It's like I'm cursed never to draw a good Donnie and this example might just be the most evident of this curse! I liked the idea of him being a soft shelled turtle with a mecha back, slightly reminiscent of the era of Turtle comics that got debunked. But the mecha shell seemed to fail and his long, thin limbs stick out weirdly. The arms using his T-phone are the best part, they're fine and that's about it.

His head was only meant to be an extension of his neck, akin to actual turtle heads but it ended up being a rectangular block on top of his neck. The bandana replacement was a nice idea, it was going to be a mecha headband with activation buttons that could trigger his shell's actions, such as releasing his staff or making transformations, again inspired by the 2018 Donatello. Lastly I could not ignore 2012 Donnie's gap tooth!

Looking back on this, I think it would be an injustice if I left this the way it is. While I won't redraw this piece, I am definitley going to redraw all four of these turtles to improve their designs and make them more appealing. Additionally I will do what I intended to do with this piece and include the famous controversial fifth turtle, Venus de Milo! I would've positioned her close by feeling left out, a bit of meta humour if you will. Rest assured these turtles will return better than ever before and Venus will be with them!

Michow Mooble's Fan

Famous stars have got their fans and when they make appearances to the public, they are highly likely to come across some of the more eager fans. This was the case for Michow recently as one of his fans is able to capture a selfie with him!

I promised you an introduction to that unfamiliar face in the audience at his concert so here she is. This is Mona Mohauke, surname pronounced Mohawk... yes it's a terrible pun but I refuse to be ashamed. Mona's a bit of a wild character, wild enough to get past security and catch a selfie with Mooble before she is dragged away!

I'm intrigued in drawing a few more selfies since they are quite slice of life and it would make for a number of cute illustrations, of characters grabbing attention from a camera lens. I had to take a picture of myself for reference so that I could put Mona into the illustration, I've only ever drawn selfies using a selfie stick before.

The colouring is the only thing I had a problem with when doing this piece, I really need to learn to swatch. Michow Mooble turned out just fine in the end but Mona had never been coloured with ink before and so when picking the lightest brown I had to hand at the time, it was too dark! It turned out when colouring Mooble's hair that the brown I had selected was even lighter!

It was by the grace of God that the white pencil was able to make a difference and create enough contrast between skin and hair for Mona, otherwise the result could've been ruined. I actually came back to certain parts with the white pencil such as the clouds and some faint highlights, using a white pen for parts I wanted to look shinier.

This piece overall was a series of ups and downs that resulted in something presentable though it could've had a better result. I might need to work a bit on Mona's design and colour scheme so she doesn't give me so many problems next time, even on the paper she's being a bit troublesome!

Great Fires Of London, What A Looker!

You're in great danger and the fire service has been alerted! They're sending Pontypandy's finest out to rescue you, and then suddenly this man turns up!

This was inspired by Baylee Jae's hot guy series on YouTube. Nothing like a beefcake of a fireman but there's nobody in Fireman Sam that fitted Baylee's criteria of being the last person anyone would deem attractive, at least not when compared to Waluigi, Squidward and Grinch! So I decided it was necesary to take on the task of turning Fireman Sam into a hot guy.

I found this awesome reference of a muscular running male and started sketching it, trying to match the proportions and then adjust it to suit Fireman Sam. I altered the proportions to suit the classic Fireman Sam, so his hands and feet are slightly larger and his legs are shorter. I kept the head a realistic size however, since otherwise he'd look too much like a child.

As is essential with these hot guy videos Baylee has done, Sam had to be topless. I exposed the braces holding up his fireman's trousers and genuinely forgot to provide any underwear beneath them! I replaced this empty space with a Welsh themed tattoo. I had to ask myself numerous times if I wanted to give Sam some chest hair but decided against it in the end.

The anatomy on this piece took up a day alone! If I was going to make Sam convincingly hot, I had to get everything in the right place. I think I got away with it, I am particularly fond of his torso and right arm (his perspective).

I'm not attracted to males, so I can't really say if I've succeeded in transforming Fireman Sam into a hot guy. Is there anyone who can vouch for him, what do you think of this new Sam? Additionally, let's see how any of you handle transforming characters into pin ups, try to go for the unlikeliest of options to get really creative!

Quinman - The story of the FOURTH character?

It's the blog's second birthday tomorrow! Thank you to those who have followed the blog, even if you're new to my content. So much has happened in this past year alone and there's more content to come, I won't be stopping any time soon!

The original Quinman concept art!

Today, rather than presenting an original artwork, I'm going to be discussing one of my OCs, solo star of the Quinman Cosplays series on YouTube. The series made it's debut in September last year, but Quinman himself has been around a lot longer than you thought! On this special occasion I'm going back in time to the earliest days of Droey's Draws to present the origins and development of Quinman and his series.

Second concept. The style is set, it's just working out his shapes and colours!

Back when I was setting up Droey's Draws, I designed four characters that were intended to be the mascots of the blog. These included Droey Drawson, Tenvad, Anne Natalie and Quinman. Droey would stand for fine art, Tenvad for digital art, Anne Natalie was a play on 'anatomy' and Quinman would have also been anatomy since his design is based on the wooden mannequins that are generally shunned as an art supply. Because Quinman conflicted with Anne I made the choice to drop him and thus he never appeared in any of the blog's art work.

Final concept, for the longest time this was his intended image which would also have varied facial expressions!

A couple of months after the blog was started, it seemed Quinman might actually get to make his debut. In the present day, Anne and Quinman are still incredibly similar in their habits of having costume themed quirks and being created for anatomy based purposes. Anne lives up to this with her career as a live model while Quinman is now a solely costume themed character. It was around the time I intended to start a web comic (something I'd still be interested in doing) and wanted to introduce Quinman in the story with a minor role. Because of this I hatched the running gag that he would always be dressed up, Unknown to be the stranger that was Quinman but adopt several identities founded in the costumes he wore. It's this that started Quinman Cosplays, though not as a video series.

To left to bottom right : Star Butterfly, Rupert Bear, Peter Griffin, Miraculous Ladybug, Doctor Who, Fat Controller

Back in 2017 I didn't have a YouTube channel and wasn't prepared to start one, there were higher priorities at the time. But believing I would be having a web comic coming out, I did some art of Quinman so that there'd be some material of him once he was known to the world. This was in the form of a character profile (still unfinished to this day) and then six models of him dressed as fictional characters. As you can see he cosplayed (from top left to bottom right) as Star Butterly, Rupert Bear, Peter Griffin, Miraculous Ladybug, Tom Baker's Doctor Who and The Fat Controller. I'll be remaking these for the Quinman Cosplays series but not in one go so look out for them!

Quinman's official design, as seen on the website and Quinman Cosplays videos.

I was adamant on keeping Quinman a secret until the comic was released but because the project went nowhere, so did he. Quinman would continue to remain a secret and his Cosplays Unknown to the world. That is until some time after I founded my YouTube channel. I wanted something about my channel that nobody else seemed to be doing; Kasey Golden has her 500 prompts series, DrawWithJazza's current trend is the YouTuber heroes and villains series, LavenderTowne's doing 'By The a Book' and Mark Crilley has lots of topical videos regarding art and creative writing. So what would be my thing? Well if nothing else I've got Quinman Cosplays! I played around with the idea and the result would be a cosplay of Robbie Rotten and Winnie The Pooh which due to their run time would be put together in a single video.

Here's the original episode of Quinman Cosplays if you haven't yet seen it!

I have no intention on making the bulk of my videos into Quinman Cosplays content and thus Droey's Draws will remain the dominant series on my channel, but it's nice for Quinman to finally have his own place in the world of Droey's Draws. He was destined to be one of the main mascots, and though not in the way it was expected, he has achieved that goal. Quinman is now welcome to mingle among my other characters and his videos will hopefully be coming for a long time.

Michow Mooble Live

Officially it's my 300th post! Wow! But the blog's anniversary is just next week so we'll celebrate this on that post as well. For today though, you can for the first time read my views on the first illustration I did for YouTube!

Hello again everyone, hope you had a great December! Welcome to 2019, let's celebrate the new year with a musical performance from Michow Mooble.

Not really sure how it came about that I would do this but I did it and I like it. It was quite simple to put together, though it was interesting to draw the back of numerous heads for a change! You may recognise most of the faces, in fact only one is a new face that you will get to meet again very soon. The remaining people, if you didn't recognise them, are Anne Natalie, Ida, Sloth, Lottie and the Stripper Gardener!

After the pencil sketches, I actually inked and coloured the illustration within two hours, I'm thinking that judging the line art it at show, oh dear. The colours however I think are quite appealing, there's no shading but I was pressing myself for time on this occasion and settled on not adding any shading for this piece. There is a bit of colour blending for the backdrop on Michow's stage though, that turned out better than I expected!

Now some of you may remember seeing this illustration, that's because this one was recorded for YouTube! You can find it with the name 'I just haven't met moo yet!' Be sure to check out the video to watch the process from inking to colouring, hope you enjoy it!
